Hi there! I have two operating systems - W2K And WinMe. W2K boots Ok, but recently my WinMe stopped booting - it even doesn't get to the boot-up screen. It writes "It's now safe to turn off the computer", and my computer shuts-down.

Samuel at 05/15/02 18:39
Hello and welcome to Liverepair.com, dear Mr.Kessel.
I would like to ask you one question: have you performed any actions (e.g.install/reinstall/uninstall of any hardware/software recently)?

This will help me to troubleshoot your problem greately.

Thank you for using LiveRepair.com

Best regards,

Samuel

Timothy Kessel at 05/15/02 18:41
Thanks for prompt responce, Samuel.
Regarding your question, yes I have got a new hard-drive and hooked it up as a slave (my first one is set to master).
Besides that, I did not change anything in neither software nor hardware.

Samuel at 05/15/02 18:43
Dear Mr.Kessel,
Please give me more information about the new hard drive:
1. Are any of the operating systems installed on the new hard drive, if "yes", please specify wich one.
2. What kind of boot manager are you using?

Thank you.

Timothy Kessel at 05/15/02 18:44
Ok, here we go:

1. yes, there is a WinMe installed on my new hard drive
2. I use default Windows boot manager.

Samuel at 05/15/02 18:45
Dear Mr.Kessel,

Thank you for your prompt answers.

Currently I'm preparing the instructions for you.
You will get an e-mail notification when my instructions are ready.

Timothy Kessel at 05/15/02 18:46
Ok, thank you. I have to run now, hope to get instruction when I get back.

Thanks again, Samuel.

Samuel at 05/15/02 18:49
Dear Mr.Kessel,

You can check these things performing the following steps:

1.Please boot in Windows 2000.

2.See the lines in boot.ini (C:\boot.ini) file for Windows Me operating system path and compare with hard drives physical connection.
Note: boot.ini is a system file, please disable the “Hide protected operating system files” in View tab of Windows Explorer Folder options (Tools -> Folder Options).

3. Please check the size of the Windows Millennium system folder (it should be approx 300-500 Meg’s).

4. Please check the files that are necessary for Windows Me booting (msdos.sys, io.sys, command.com) are present.

Timothy Kessel at 05/15/02 18:52
All right! Thanks, Samuel - that did the trick!
I had to rewrite the path to my WinMe on the old hard-drive in the boot.ini in W2K - after I've put in the second one the disks seemed to shift, that's why, I guess, it couldn't boot up!

Thanks again, Samuel!
YOu've got a great service! have a nice day!

Samuel at 05/15/02 18:55
